We had an early Start today, we were on the road by 7:15, and started out in a steady drizzle.
The landscape of the early section is fairly flat and lush, lots of farmland and pasture, small hills surround. Although pretty in parts, this is not a typical (spectacular mountain vista) BC drive, this could just as well be northern Ontario. It was after passing through Quesnel that Linda pointed out that it appeared that we were the only people heading to Prince George this morning. This could be a reflection on the destination itself, PG is often the butt of many BC folks jokes.
We just touched the bottom of Prince George as we left Highway 97 and jumped over to Highway 16 heading for Prince Rupert. This section of highway took us through Vanderhoof, Fraser Lake and then Burns Lake where we stopped to let Jebo run and eat our lunch.
The afternoon drive was magnificent (if you like driving). The section of road from
to
is simply beautiful;
not only in its varied terrain but in the way the mountains meet the water as you approach the coast. We were also blown away by the quality of the roads, smooth and clear, totally lacking potholes or uneven pavement; for people that have spent many frustrating years driving in Ontario and Quebec, we still marvel at the quality of the roads out here in BC.
After a 12 hour day on the road, we finally arrived in Prince Rupert. We had a stroll down to the waterfront
but knew somehow we wouldn’t be able to stay up until 10:00 to watch the sunset tonight.
